Brazilian bank Bradesco allows clients to check balance via Whatsapp

Across Brazil, traditional banking institutions are following in the footsteps of fintech startups by making access to financial services simpler for their clients. Just last week, Banco do Brasil launched a credit API through startup Bxblue, and now Bradesco is taking steps to help clients better manage their bank balance.

Through IBM Watson’s artificial intelligence systems paired with Whatsapp, Bradesco clients can check their balance statements, branch locations, and other services through the text messaging service. The system works through hashtags, such as  #saldo, #ultimoscancamentos, and #limites, sent through the Bradesco app or to (11) 3335-0237 on Whatsapp.

Currently, this solution is available only to users of the Bradesco app and customers of the online bank, Next, which is owned by Bradesco. Bradesco plans to expand the service to over 7 million people out of the 100 million Whatsapp users that live in Brazil.
