LentesPlus.com closes US$5M+ Series A

LatAm ListLentesPlus is the Latin American clone of 1-800-Contacts, a service that delivers contact lenses directly to customers. In a region chronically underserved by optical services, LentesPlus dramatically lowers friction and barriers surrounding the purchase of contact lenses. Up to 43% of the population in Latin American suffers from some kind of visual problems, but most must visit stores with limited, expensive selection to receive their contact lenses.

Across two separate rounds, LentesPlus raised a total of US$5.1M for a Series A round, led by Palm Drive Capital, with participation from IGNIA, InQLab, and previous angel investors. LentesPlus has raised a total of US$9M since they were founded in 2014.

“With Lentesplus.com we see founders who are extremely dedicated to improving the consumer experience. Latin American consumers have been historically underserved and have had a lower contact lens usage relative to the rest of the world. By removing the friction and high-costs typically associated with purchasing contact lenses, Lentesplus.com is well-positioned to be a game changer and leader in reshaping Latin American commerce, in the same way that Jet.com and JD.com respectively did for the US and China,” said Palm Drive Capital’s Managing Partner, Seamon Chan, in a press release.

LentesPlus has headquarters in Bogotá and operations in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia, helping customers across the region receive quick, low-cost access to contact lenses. This investment will help LentesPlus become the regional leader in optical e-commerce.
