Loon restores internet access in Peru

LatAm List – Alphabet’s Loon, the network of stratospheric balloons that brings internet connectivity to rural and remote communities, restored internet connectivity to Peru within 48 hours after Peru’s recent earthquake.

Loon’s response time has decreased compared to the 4-week delivery time it took the network to restore connections to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. This was partly due to Loon’s previous experience serving Peru after the flooding in 2017 and talks with Telefonica to help expand its service throughout the country.

Aside from providing a natural disaster response service, Loon plans to deliver regular service and expand its service later this year in Kenya.
