In a story brought to our attention by LAVCA, DogHero, a Brazilian startup that claims to be the “Airbnb for Dogs,” has closed a US$2.5M round led by IGNIA Partners and Global Founders Capital, with support from previous investors Kaszek Ventures and monashees.
The application helps dog owners find temporary homes and care for their pets when they go on vacation.
The São Paulo-based company raised seed funding from Kaszek Ventures, then raised a second US$3.1M round with monashees+ as lead investor in 2016. Brazil holds the world’s second largest population of dogs (after the U.S.): over 35 million dogs in 2016.
DogHero now has over 15,000 hosts in 650 cities in Brazil, and 1,100 hosts in 20 cities in Argentina, where the app has been operating since July 2017. DogHero will reportedly use the fund to grow their marketshare in Argentina and to expand to Mexico, Latin America’s next biggest market for dogs.
