dLocal expands across Africa with new partnerships

LatamListdLocal, the leading cross-border payment platform in Latin America, launches into four new countries and announces partnerships with Verve and Fawry. The startup now operates in 26 countries across Latin America, APAC, the Middle East, and Africa.

dLocal is a 360°, single-API payments platform for local merchants, designed to handle and facilitate mass online payments. By operating as the payments processor for local merchants, dLocal empowers sellers to reach billions of customers, accept payments, send payouts, and settle funds globally.

The startup expanded its network into Kenya, Senegal, Ghana, and Cameroon. New integration partners Verve and Fawry, from Nigeria and Egypt respectively, were also brought into the platform. As a payments provider for emerging markets, expansion in Africa is particularly important for the startup.

“Africa is a tremendous untapped e-commerce opportunity. The number of internet users is significant, starting 2020 with 453 million users, and the region has huge potential for growth with an under 40% penetration rate,” said Adebiyi Aromolaran, Head of Expansion Africa at dLocal.

dLocal will now support the 47 million locally issued Verve cards through its platform in Nigeria. These cards are also accepted in 21 other African countries. Through Fawry, an additional 166,500 cash-payment locations will be added to dLocal’s network in Egypt.

The new partnerships will further facilitate growth in the region.
