LatAm List – Ericsson, the global telecommunications company, has announced plans to launch 5G networks across Latin America in 2020 and 2021.
Ericsson currently provides 5G networks in 14 countries across the world, including 4 networks in the US, but is yet to launch in Latin America.
The company is reportedly working with five countries that already have limited 5G; Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Puerto Rico. They also have test phase networks in Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador on which to build the 5G infrastructure.
“We have a lot of important customers in Latin America and manufacturing as well. It is an area that is very well-positioned for 5G, although they are having a low deployment of 5G in comparison to the rest of the world,” commented Fredrik Jejdling, Vice President and Head of Business Area Network at Ericsson.
The arrival of 5G and wider access to wireless technology into Latin America is expected to trigger the rapid growth of startups and technologies in a fourth industrial revolution.
