Facebook launches Commerce Accelerator for startups

LatamList – Facebook announced the launch of a new Commerce Accelerator aimed at startups in the e-commerce sector. The global pandemic means that the majority of people have to shop online, and the company is particularly interested in commerce solutions for this reason.

“Facebook is accelerating our commerce work and building solutions to help businesses of all sizes that are being forced to change their model and adapt to selling online,” said Michael Huang, Head of Startup Programs at Facebook.

The Accelerator will work with 60 startups from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. The aim is to develop e-commerce technology to ease operations in Facebook’s own marketplace.

Applications opened on August 3rd and will run until the end of the month. The program is expected to run from October to February.

Facebook will also pick 30 startups from Latin and North America for a program called “Connectivity”. This program is aimed to help improve internet access in more underserved regions.
