Medellín Venture Capital to invest $1.2M in micro VCs

Medellín Venture Capital, a program co-led by Medellín’s municipality and Medellin’s innovation center Ruta N, announced a plan to deploy $1.2M in pre-seed and seed rounds starting in 2025. This initiative is part of a broader $11 million investment strategy to drive impact in Medellín.

Medellín Venture Capital will invest in micro VCs that, in turn, will invest in 15 to 30 startups that address challenges in sectors like mobility, health, air quality, energy, circular economy, and deeptech in Medellín.

“The first investment was made in partnership with Bancoldex. In the coming months, investments will be made in four additional funds, which will identify startups aligned with their [the funds’] objectives,” said Ruta N’s Executive Director Carolina Lodoño.

Eligible startups must be based in Latin America and show a measurable impact in Medellín.

“This investment becomes a city asset, not an expense. In the long term, the returns from this investment will return to the Special District of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Medellín, allowing for reinvestment in new economic and social development projects,” added Ruta N’s Executive Director Carolina Lodoño.
