Argentine healthtech Pura Mente, whose meditation app in Spanish is the best rated by users in Latin America, secured a $1.3 million seed-round. The app’s investors include 500 Startups Latin America, Start-Up Chile, and VC funds Goodwater Capital and Newtype Ventures.
Pura Mente is one of the pioneering meditation startups in the region. Founded in 2019, the startup has less than four years operating and projects a turnover of $1 million by the end of 2022. It currently offers its services to companies such as Quilmes, Unilever, La Bioguía, PWC and Wunderman Thomson.
The app offers personalized sessions based on the difficulties and needs of each user, as well as weekly live meditations. According to Martin Becerra, Pura Mente’s CEO and co-founder, the app was born with the idea that the only way to raise humanity’s collective consciousness is to awaken and develop the consciousness in each person.
“2022 has been a turning point for Pura Mente, and we are happy to announce that we’ve closed a $1.3 million seed-round. In numbers, we have grown 5x in 12 months, reached over 1 million downloads, enhanced the app with premium features and maintained a 4.9 rating,” stated Pura Mente’s CEO Martin Becerra.
To date, Pura Mente has a team of 35 employees distributed between Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. Among the company’s goals is to reach a $1M turnover in 2022.
In Latin America there are less than ten startups focused on mental health, a figure that shows the lag that exists compared to countries like the US, where there are at least 4,000 health startups. This information poses a great opportunity for founders that want to venture into healthtech in the region.
