Mexico-based femtech Plenna secured a $4.4 million seed-round led by Urban Innovation Fund, with participation from Canary VC, Collaborative, 1984 VC, 500 Global, Bridge Latam, Amador Holdings, Nido Ventures, Integra Groupe, Phoenix Club and others.
Plenna is the first Mexican femtech offering a comprehensive health services platform in Latin America. The femtech offers hybrid care with its innovative model, and is reimagining women’s care through a branded experience infused with technology. Plenna offers in-person gynecology services and virtual mental health, nutrition, gynecology and primary care services through a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model.
The fresh funds will be used to expand its services and support the launch of its new platform where patients can view their medical records, pre-fill their medical histories, and more; while physicians can collaboratively interact with each other, providing comprehensive diagnoses and tracking key patient metrics.
Plenna was founded in 2021 by Mexicans Giovanna Abramo and Lorena Ostos to solve the main problems women face when receiving medical care: from breaking strong taboos that limit access to care, to finding the right provider, and sharing medical records and results with patients and among specialists. Plenna seeks to solve the problems caused by the lack of timely and comprehensive diagnostics.
“Plenna is both a healthcare and technology company. On the technology front, our patient portal will digitize and put patients in control of their own health, while allowing professionals to communicate with each other and build comprehensive diagnostics with data-driven algorithms. With this data intelligence, we will be able to create a scalable model in which we provide personalized health recommendations to our patients. On the healthcare front, we are focused on standardizing care by protocolizing every part of our services and training our professionals so that no matter who you deal with, you receive the same warm, high-quality care,”
says Giovanna Abramo, cofounder of Plenna.
According to Lorena Ostos, cofounder of Plenna, in 2023 the femtech will launch a subscription model that will come with a native app, they will expand their services to strengthen the value offering starting with maternity, and will expand the in-person coverage to other areas of Mexico to continue growing the hybrid model.
Plenna is building a solid infrastructure in a country that lacks innovation in the healthcare space. This femtech seeks to provide a uniform and high quality experience and to be the benchmark in women’s wellness. In its first 6 months of operation, Plenna helped over 4,000 women and expects to reach more than 24,000 patients by 2023. With this financing, the femtech has received a total of $5.3 million to support its growth.
