Brazilian-founded AI startup Openlayer raised a $14.5M Series A round led by Race Capital, with participation from NXTP, Mindset Ventures, Y Combinator, Quiet Capital, Wayra, KPN Ventures, and Mento VC. The investment follows a $4.8M seed round in May 2023.

Openlayer provides an AI testing and governance platform that helps companies define performance standards, run tests pre- and post-deployment, and identify unexpected model behavior before it reaches end users.

Openlayer will use the funds to accelerate product development, grow its team, and expand across key industries and international markets.

“When enterprises deploy AI, there’s no room for error, especially in customer-facing applications. Robust evaluation, observability, and governance aren’t optional – they’re foundational to responsible AI deployment,” said Gabriel Bayomi, CEO and co-founder of Openlayer.

Openlayer was part of Y Combinator’s Summer 2021 batch and reports growing its product development output nearly 5x in 2024.
