Promotora Social, NXTP Labs invest in Chilean edtech startup, Lab4U

Lab4U is democratizing science by putting experiments at students’ fingertips – using smartphones. The Start-Up Chile graduate recently received an undisclosed seed investment from Promotora Social Mexico, NXTP Labs, and several family offices and angel investors.

Komal Dadlani and Álvaro Peralta founded Lab4U when they realized that students were bored with science classes because there were few experiments in the classroom. For most schools, the equipment needed to run experiments is prohibitively expensive or there isn’t enough material for all students. Lab4U is an app that uses sensors on smartphones to conduct experiments in biology, chemistry, and physics.

This is the fifth edtech investment by Promotora Social, a Mexican fund that invests in social enterprises in education, health, and economic development. The funding will help Lab4U enter the Mexican market to improve science classes, increase school attendance rates, and inspire more students to become scientists. According to Lab4U data, student users see a 40% improvement in science exam performance after using the app.
