In a story originally reported by El Mercurio, Chilean bus ticket vendor Recorrido.cl sold over 2 million bus tickets last year, bringing in US$32M in sales and reaching the top ten e-commerce sites in Chile. The company has registered 300% yearly growth since it was founded five years ago, thanks to three rounds of investment led by Christoph Schiess, Mountain Partners, and most recently, Mountain Nazca.
Said co-founders Josef Narli and Lennart Sönke Ruff in an interview with El Mercurio:
“Our business model has been the same since we started: becoming the principal platform for purchasing bus tickets and bringing the inter-urban bus system into the age of e-commerce. We believe this focus has been an integral part of our success, since the bus companies that work with us see us as a strategic partner.”
In 2018, Recorrido.cl is looking to triple its growth from 2017 to become one of the top five companies selling online in Chile. They are already looking to expand beyond Chilean borders, with both founders considering expansion to at least two other Latin American countries by the end of the year.
