Some Walmart Chile stores make 25% of their sales through e-commerce

With the advent of last-mile delivery services like Cornershop, as well as Lider delivery services, making grocery delivery easier than ever, Walmart Chile is seeing huge spikes in sales through e-commerce.

“We already have stores where Cornershop, Lider.cl, and other online orders, as well as pick-up orders, are doing extremely well and making up around one quarter of that location’s sales,” said Horacio Barbeito, general manager of Walmart Chile.

Walmart Chile is currently in negotations to acquire Cornershop, a Chilean-Mexican last-mile delivery services founded by the previous founders of Groupon LatAm.

“In Chile, we [Walmart] are within a half hour of 90% of Chileans. This pattern of physical stores is ideal for the development of many sales channels and the intersection of the physical and the digital, which gives us a competitive advantage.”

Walmart Chile is also seeing almost half their sales through their self-checkout counters, a relatively new addition to Chilean grocery stores. The brand is currently growing, renovating over 110 locations across Chile to provide smoother services to all of their customers.
