The Latam Insurtech Accelerator: Taking Latin American Insurtech to the next level, Ep 6

In the sixth episode of Hacking Insurance, our host Rodrigo Alfonso talks with Hilario Itriago, President of Boxx Insurance USA, and Pablo Tiscornia, Managing Director of The Latam Insurtech Accelerator. Hilario is also co-founder and mentor for The Latam Insurtech Accelerator.

Hacking Insurance is a podcast where you can learn about the latest digital trends in the insurance and insurtech world from industry leaders. Our host, Rodrigo Alfonso, is co-founder of Sekure, the LATAM market’s embedded insurance distribution network. Throughout the episodes, Rodrigo talks with guests about technology, innovation, and the impact of Insurtech on insurance.

Driving the evolution of Insurtech in Latin America

Hilario has a long track record in the insurance world, having worked in the industry for 22 years. He worked 16 years at RSA Insurance Group and created, together with Chubb, the first Insurtech ecosystem in the region: Insurtech Map. Pablo, on the other hand, is the Managing Director of The Latam Insurtech Accelerator, a sector he approached two years ago to work on the acceleration of insurtechs and take them to the next level.

It was at an Open Insurtech event that Hilario and Pablo met, and their paths crossed when they decided to build the accelerator together. They both detected that there was a gap in the insurtech world in Latin America: there were more insurtechs than ever before, but there were no regional accelerator programs that were independent, that is, not sponsored by entities or companies.

After an arduous process, they managed to raise the necessary capital and talent to create this program, which has already selected its first cohort. In addition, the accelerator obtained the support of several international organizations that provide the program with extremely valuable networking for the participating startups.

In this episode of Hacking Insurance, our guests share their knowledge and experience on how the industry has evolved in recent years, their opinions on which business models are the most interesting or which are attracting the attention of funds, what is needed to take the industry to the next level, and much more.
