Trela shuts down after failing to secure new funding

Brazilian online grocery startup Trela shut down after six years of operation.

Trela operated a just-in-time delivery model, using a distribution center in São Paulo to limit excess inventory and improve efficiency through frequent restocking.

Trela was one of the last remaining players in the sector after competitors such as Justo and Mercado Diferente also shut down. Trela adjusted its model and cut costs but failed to secure the capital needed to scale.

In 2021, Trela raised a seed round of about $3M. In 2022, it raised an additional $25M during the surge in demand driven by the pandemic.
