LatamList – Yana, a mental health management app, raised a $1.5M funding round led by ALLVP. The app also recently reached 5 million users.
Andrea Campos founded Yana, short for You Are Not Alone, as an aid for her own mental health issues. She soon realized that many people would also benefit from her system and so built an app, Yana, that provides access to mental health tools for Spanish-speaking people through chatbots.
Yana launched in early 2020, the same week that Mexico went into quarantine. When Apple’s App Store highlighted Yana for International Mental Health Day the app went from 80,000 users to 1 million within two weeks. The app is now one of the top three downloaded apps in 12 Spanish-speaking countries, including Mexico, Spain, and Chile.
Yana also raised $315K from investors such as 500 Startups, Magma Partners, and Hustle Fund earlier this year. With this most recent funding, Yana is looking to develop into a long-term mental health management resource to provide daily support.
“We want to compete in the wellness space,” Campos said. “A lot of people were looking for us to deal with crises such as break up or loss, but then they didn’t always see a necessity to keep using Yana for longer than the crisis lasted.”
Campos believes that mental health is something that needs attention each day, just like exercise. The new features will include a daily gratitude journal, mood tracker, and meditation exercises.
