Over 900 startups applied to join the 9th Generation of the 500 Startups accelerator in Latin America, based in Mexico City. Of the applicants, judges chose just eleven startups: one from Chile, three from Colombia, five from Mexico, and two from Peru.
The chosen startups will participate in a 16-week acceleration program and will each receive a US$60K equity-free grant. All founders will have access to 500 Startups’ mentors who will teach them about legal issues, product, sales, company culture, financing, and scaling throughout the program. The program culminates in a Demo Day in Mexico City, and for the first time, a second Demo Day in Bogotá, Colombia.
Said René Lomelí, Director of LatAm Operations for 500 Startups, in the press release announcing G9:
“For the investment team of 500 Startups, it is a privilege to analyze so many incredible companies during the selection process. We understand the challenges of building a company and we are thrilled to work hand-in-hand with founders in this early stage for our region.”
