Since Sebastian Vidal helped found Parallel 18 in 2016, the Puerto Rican accelerator has supported 120 startups for 20 weeks in their San Juan office. The fifth generation of companies, announced at the beginning of July, includes startups from Puerto Rico, the US, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, the UK, and Canada.
Parallel 18 is a project backed by multiple government agencies in Puerto Rico to help the island become an international hotspot for tech innovation. Modeled after Start-Up Chile, where Sebastian Vidal used to be Executive Director, P18 offers a US$40K equity-free grant, as well as workspace for five months, access to mentors and courses, and international networks to help startups find funding and support.
