Platzi recognized as the best edtech platform in the world

Platzi is a Colombian edtech platform that provides online technology and entrepreneurship courses, taught in real-time by top experts in the field. Some courses they offer include a Y Combinator startup bootcamp, taught by Sam Altman, and an SEO course taught by Rand Fishkin, the founder of Moz. The courses were originally taught in Spanish, but Platzi now offers classes in English, as well.

Platzi already gained worldwide recognition in 2015 when they were accepted into the prestigious Y Combinator after less than two years in existence, and they were already profitable. At the time, Platzi had over 80,000 students worldwide and a 70% completion rate. Most MOOCs (massive open online courses) only see completion rates around 10-12%.

Now Platzi has been recognized again, this time by the ASU+GSV Summit, one of the most prestigious education events in the world. Over 600 companies applied to attend, and only three made it to the finals, but Platzi came out ahead.

Freddy Vega, CEO of Platzi, tweeted after the event:

“This prize is for you, the students of Platzi. We have been recognized as one of the best education platforms in the world at the #asugsv18, and we will keep working to bring world-class education to each one of your screens. #NeverStopLearning.”

The founders, Colombian Freddy Vega and Guatemalan Christian Van Der Henst, received their prize from Matthew McConaughey.
