ProChile launches Chile Connected USA 2020

LatamListProChile, the Chilean government’s export promotion bureau, recently announced the launch of Chile Connected USA 2020. A virtual business meeting that seeks to consolidate commercial ties between the US and Chile.

Chile is recognized as the most advanced IT market in Latin America, the sector represents 3.4% of its national GDP (2018). Since the implementation of the FTA (Free Trade Agreement) 16 years ago, trade between Chile and the US has increased over 220% during this time period.

With Chile exporting 27.6% of its services to the US and ranking 29th among the US’ top trading partners, the event aims to position the Andean country as a reliable supplier of goods and services in productive areas such as creative industries, technological solutions, healthy food, and women-led businesses.

Government-led initiatives such as Startup Chile play a key role in positioning the country as a tech and innovation hub in the region that attracts top-level entrepreneurs and investors. Other programs like Go Global, which was created in partnership between Corfo and ProChile, seek to promote Chilean innovation in the world, by helping Chilean entrepreneurs enter new markets. For example, in its initial phase, Go Global helps companies with international business plans and internationalization strategies to reach market destinations like Miami, among others.

Chile’s success stories include NotCo, a foodtech startup that recently became Jeff Bezos’ first investment in the region and is set to launch in the US. Another example of local startups going global is the on-demand grocery delivery service Cornershop, which was officially acquired by Uber in the first semester of 2020 and recently launched operations in Florida through UberEats.

As one of Latin America’s strongest entrepreneurial ecosystems, the Chilean government aims to establish the US as the priority commercial destination in services, creative industries of innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Chile Connected USA 2020 will run from October 19th to November 18th, with the Tech & Innovation related activities taking place on October 27th to 29th.
