The VC firm H20 Capital Innovation has announced that they created a second fund for $50M to continue supporting entrepreneurship development in Latin America, specifically with seed and pre-seed investments in startups in the following sectors: marketplace, fintech, etc e-commerce, and software. Also, 15% of the fund will be allocated to U.S. companies with a Spanish-speaking focus. This fund could grow to $65 million dollars in the upcoming months.
Some of the investors that supported the consolidation of this fund are Scott Shleifer, co-founder and partner of Tiger Global Management; Sebastian Mejia, co-founder and president of Rappi; Fabian Gomez, co-founder and CEO of Frubana; Roger Laughlin, co-founder of Kavak; and the founders of iFood and Mercê do Bairro.
Stevon D. Darling, H20’s Chief Investment Officer, expressed the following: “We were able to bring investors with strong bonds to Latin America, who have great knowledge of the status and development of the region, and who trust H20’s vision to promote high-potential entrepreneurs in the region”.
The VC firm H20 Capital Innovation was founded in 2019 by Mauricio Porras and Daniel Lloreda, and counts with offices in Miami, Colombia and Mexico. The firm’s vision is to be involved in the growth and development of entrepreneurs and startups in which it invests.
Daniel Lloreda adds the following: “The verticals where we invest are areas that we know very well and that our network and advisors also understand perfectly because we like to be an active fund that adds value to the companies in which we invest”.
The company’s board of directors and advisor group includes important entrepreneurs and experts in key markets in the region, such as Roger Laughlin, co-founder of Kavak, the first Mexican unicorn; Javier Villamizar, operating partner of the SoftBank Vision Fund; and Ricardo Martínez Finger, co-founder of Jüsto supermarket.
