LatAm List – Loggi has made WorldSense co-founder Davi Reis its new CTO by acquiring the online advertising startup. This type of acquisition is know in the market as “acqui-hiring,” in other words, a company is acquired for its talent and not necessarily for its product.
When looking at Reis’ past experiences, the acquisition makes sense. With a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, he formed part of Google’s initial team in Brazil as a specialist in search algorithms and text analysis. Reis also led national projects such as Orkut’s (no longer exists) monetization and took part in Google Pigeon, an update to Google’s algorithm that improves search function for places and points of interest worldwide.
“The acquisition of talent and the arrival of Davi Reis put the Loggi team at an unprecedented level of development in Brazil. Today, we have one of the best programmers in the world as a CTO in our company and this brings us closer to our goal of being one of the best engineering companies not only in the country, but in the world,” said Arthur Debert, co-founder of Loggi.
Loggi currently carries out about 3 million deliveries a month to more than 300 thousand customers in 33 Brazilian municipalities. Recently, the startup announced a US$111M round led by Softbank, the Japanese investment bank.
“Loggi keeps growing and its disruptive business model stands out in the market. It is a great moment for me to be a part of this company,” said Reis.
