New venture capital firm Newtopia announces its first fund of $50M

LatamListNewtopia VC, a new Argentine venture capital firm, announces its first fund of $50M. The fund will invest in early-stage startups across Latin America, taking a hands-on mentorship approach and supporting them on “the road to Series A”.

The fund is led by five renowned entrepreneurs in the Latam ecosystem: Patricio Jutard, co-founder of MURAL, Mariano Mayer, founder of Marea Venture Partners, Sacha Spitz, co-founder and Partner at Yavu Ventures, Jorge Aguado, former National SciTech and Innovation Secretary in Argentina, and Juan Pablo Lafosse, founder and former CEO of ALMUNDO.

The founders will bring their extensive experience in Latin America’s startup ecosystem to work closely with the selected startups. They will help them solve their day-to-day problems, think big, and scale both regionally and globally.

“We are entrepreneurs backing entrepreneurs. We want Newtopia to be the launchpad for founders that are transforming and creating the new reality,” said Jutard.

The booming tech scene and digital development across Latin America are producing more and more talent, which Newtopia VC wants to support and grow.

“There is a talent and creativity revolution in Latin America. […] We are part of this booming movement. We will help more than 100 new startups to take off and scale with this first fund,” said Lafosse.

Over 70 of the region’s leading investors, advisors, and entrepreneurs, including Marcos Galperin, founder of Mercado Libre, back the new fund.

Newtopia VC will select 10 regional startups to take part in the first 10-week program and receive $100,000. The program takes on a hands-on approach. Entrepreneurs will receive strategic mentoring and attend workshops led by key players in the ecosystem.
