Plerk closes $12M Series A round to continue improving employees’ well-being

Plerk, the all-in-one benefits membership for employees, has closed a $12M Series A round. Upload Ventures, Magma Partners, 500 Startups and MGV Capital participated in the round.

Plerk’s benefits membership aims to fight burnout among employees and improve their quality of life. Employees have flexible benefits such as telemedicine, wellness, education, entertainment and fitness through a partnership with the Brazilian unicorn Gympass.

Its founders Ángel Arias and Miguel Medina are part of the Rappi Mafia, as they were two of the first employees the company hired in Mexico in 2016. Ángel, Miguel, and Antonio Martínez (the third co-founder) were building a business travel tool for employees that, in 2020, was selected for a Y Combinator batch. But then, the pandemic hit. This was the turning point in which Ángel, Antonio and Miguel decided to pivot and create Plerk.

Miguel Medina explained how this Series A is a milestone for the company:

“This round will help us to continue growing in Mexico, where today thousands of users already enjoy the benefits of Plerk. We will continue working to be the number one benefits provider in the region by building a product that responds to the demands of the future of work, both for employers and employees. The world has changed, benefits must change too.”

In the last year, Plerk has acquired more than 40,000 users through more than 350 companies in Mexico, Colombia, and Chile, with the help of its 150 collaborators.
