Prosus to acquire Despegar in $1.7B all-cash deal

Prosus announced its acquisition of Argentinian travel tech Despegar for $19.50 per share, valuing Despegar at $1.7B. This valuation is a 33% premium over Despegar’s last closing price and a 34% premium over its 90-day average. Despegar and Prosus expect the deal to close in Q2 2025, pending shareholder and regulatory approval.

Despegar operates a travel marketplace across 19 countries in Latin America, offering flights, hotel bookings, payment options, and financing solutions.

Prosus is a global technology investor and operator in online classifieds, payments, food delivery, and edtech, with a portfolio of over 100 companies including unicorns like iFood and Creditas.

The acquisition allows Despegar to leverage Prosus’ resources and operational expertise while maintaining its independent brand.

“The transaction represents significant value for Despegar stockholders, and our customers will benefit from access to more services, enhanced customer experiences, increased loyalty benefits, and more comprehensive solutions tailored to their needs,” said Damian Scokin, Despegar’s CEO.

Founded in 1999, Despegar trades on the NYSE and processed over 9.5M unique transactions with $5.5B in gross bookings in the last twelve months.
