Argentinian paytech Tapi acquired the operations for bill payments, mobile top-ups, gift cards, and cash transactions of Arcus, a subsidiary of Mastercard. In July 2024, Tapi raised a $22M Series A.
Tapi offers payment infrastructure for banks and fintechs to handle recurring payments, cash transactions, airtime top-ups, and gift cards across multiple countries and regulatory environments with a single solution.
Arcus, acquired by Mastercard in 2021, enables real-time payment and recurring billing solutions via Mexico’s SPEI infrastructure. Its brand and payment processing technologies will remain under Mastercard’s umbrella.
With the acquisition, Tapi gained access to retail locations across Mexico, including OXXO, Chedraui, Finabien, 7-Eleven, and SYStienda.
“Integrating Arcus’ capabilities is a turning point for us. It expands our reach to thousands of physical points in the country and strengthens our network with proven technology and local relationships,” said Tomás Mindlin, Tapi’s co-founder and CEO.
