LatAm List – Y Combinator, the Silicon Valley accelerator program, has announced plans to make the Summer 2020 program entirely virtual in light of the current pandemic.
The YC Winter cohort Demo Day has already been converted online to protect participants. The decision to move the summer program online will allow it to still take place, despite current restrictions and social distancing measures in place across the globe. Online applications are now open.
“Depending on the circumstances of this summer, some or all of the batch may take place remotely over video,” Y Combinator said in a statement. “This is a unique worldwide crisis, but it will not lessen the extraordinary opportunities for terrific founders to start and build epic companies,” reassured the accelerator.
Whereas participating startups have previously been asked to relocate to the Bay Area, they will now access the program virtually. This decision will potentially open up the program to more early-stage startups which previously were not able to relocate.
