Argentine entrepreneurs sell Postcron to Seattle-based fund

LatAm List – US investment fund, WL Online Marketing, recently acquired Postcron, a Dutch company headed by Argentine entrepreneurs German Merlo and Lucas Emma. In 2015, Postcron, which provides a social media marketing suite to its clients, was acquired by the Argentine entrepreneurs who already had their own startup, SocialTools, that provided a similar service.

SocialTools was founded in Cordoba in 2012 by Merlo and Emma, and has since received funding from Wayra’s accelerator program, as well as 500 Startups. By 2014, they had 150K clients in 30 Spanish-speaking countries.

Since 2015, Postcron grew eight-fold, manages over 5M accounts, and operates in 170 countries.

WL Online Marketing has its headquarters in Seattle, and in January 2019 sealed the deal with Postcron for an undisclosed amount. Postcron’s team is made up of 25 members distributed primarily across Cordoba, Brazil, Mexico, and the US, with other members working remotely from other parts of the world.

Emma and Merlo finalized the agreed transition period between the two parts and left the company this month. This development could mean a boost to Cordoba’s startup ecosystem.

“Argentina has a great capacity to create and locate talent. Many times, companies are focused on the Argentine market and on the economy’s problems. But if the entrepreneur finds a global problem, there’s human capital of great quality, which is our most important competitive advantage,” remarks Emma.
