Cheaf raises $3M to fight food waste

Cheaf Technologies, a Mexican foodtech, raised a $3M seed round led by Global Founders Capital.

Cheaf helps restaurants, hotels, and grocery stores reduce the amount of food waste they produce with their app. Companies can sell their excess food on the Cheaf app at a reduced price, therefore salvaging unwanted food.

The ultimate aim of the startup is to work with food banks across Mexico to support those below the breadline.

Users can search for shops in their vicinity that are offering food, pay online, and collect from the shop or restaurant at a specific time. The app also verifies the transaction at the point of collection.

For businesses, Cheaf represents an attractive solution to both food waste and issues of environmental impact. The startup launched in November last year and has attracted some major food chains in Mexico, such as Agua y Tierra and Munchin Donuts.
