Laika raises $12M for online pet shop

LatamListLaika, an online shop for pet accessories, raised a $12M Series A to expand its services. Y Combinator, inQlab, Streamlined Ventures, and Justin Mateen, co-founder of Tinder, invested in the round.

Laika is an online platform for pet-owners that sells toys,  food, and hygiene products. The platform also recently launched new services for veterinary care, grooming, and insurance.

The new funding will be used to improve marketing and technology, and to open new distribution centres in Colombia, Mexico, and Chile.

“We want to invest in these areas in order to provide the best experience for our clients,” said Camilo Sánchez, co-founder and CEO of Laika.

Laika’s veterinary subscription Vet Care will launch in Colombia in June with two plans – premium and basic. Subscribers will have access to video consultations and insurance cover of up to $100K (MXN$2M).
