Gaia Design, a Mexican startup, raised $50M in funding from SoftBank for a new digital marketplace.
Gaia combines traditional shopping styles with a digital sales platform specializing in homeware and furniture. The company is expanding its omnichannel business model in the country and also launching a new homeware marketplace for Mexico.
“We want to build the leading digital platform in the home sector, focusing on Mexico,” said Philippe Cahuzac, co-founder and CEO of Gaia.
The company fared well during the COVID-19 pandemic when many people chose to redesign their homes while in lockdown. Gaia saw a sales growth of more than 100% through its online site.
Cahuzac explains that the platform is changing its business model in line with the new buying tendencies of consumers revealed during the pandemic. Customers want more flexible homeware-buying solutions and more storage products to make their ‘home offices’ more attractive and comfortable.
“We want to take advantage of these new trends and continue growing,” said Cahuzac.
