Online pet store Laika raises $48M Series B

Laika, an e-commerce platform, raised a $48M Series B funding round led by SoftBank. JAM Fund, Delivery Hero, and FJ Labs also contributed to the round, alongside various angel investors.

Laika is an online platform for buying pet supplies. The platform serves more than 300,000 active users who can order pet supplies online and have their orders delivered within two hours.

Camilo and Manuela Sánchez realized there was a gap in the market for on-demand pet supplies, and so founded Laika alongside Tulio Jimenez in 2018. The platform raised its $12M Series A in June last year.

“It is important that we sell products not just to the rich people with credit cards, so we offer two-hour delivery and you can pay with cash or card on delivery,” said Camilo.

The new funding will enable the platform to launch a new product: pet insurance for cats and dogs. Laika also plans to expand into new markets in the region including Argentina, Peru, and Ecuador.
