RobinFood raises $36M for contactless kitchens

LatamListRobinFood raised $36M from MGM Innova Capital to re-invent the restaurant industry in the post-COVID era. Based on a cloud-kitchen system, diners have almost no contact with staff, making it a safer option for customers.

Each cloud kitchen will make food for up to four of the startupā€™s seven connected brands, offering a wide range of food choices. All orders are made online, costing as little as $2 on average, and then picked by hand. The startup has been able to minimize labor costs and optimize productivity by adopting the cloud-kitchen model.

Restaurant and food delivery companies have increasingly digitized operations since the COVID-19 outbreak in order to retain business. RobinFood is determined that its cloud-based contactless system will flourish in the current climate.

ā€œCOVID has been great for the adoption of digital options. People love to limit human contact while having access to fresh food,ā€ said Jose Guillermo Calderon, co-founder of RobinFood.

Calderon and his partner, Miguel McAllister, previously founded two other startups. One of which was the food delivery app Domicilios, purchased by Delivery Hero in 2014, and the other, Merqueo.

The startup plans to expand from its current 50 stores to 1,000 over the next five years to make it one of the largest chains in the region. RobinFood founders estimate that the startup will need as much as $200M for successful expansion.
